Shannon:Shopping Tips Pt.1: Mall Shopping

Thank the Lord in heaven that Nina and I are planning a Target beauty shopping spree in 2 weeks! I've been in major need of some glam shopping! Some of the things on my list are a Conair large barreled curling iron, tinted moisturizer, concealer(Maybelline Fit Me Collection in #115),Covergirl Lip Tints, and Covergirl NatureLuxe Silk Foundation. But anyway, like everyone else, I get stuck in a style rut sometimes. Like I'm not sure if I should pay $50 for that amazing leather jacket that I really want, or that amazing pair of $20 jeans that I really need. And I've learned a lot from my year of studying fashion magazines, touring high-end boutiques, and of course, shopping! So I thought I'd help the people who don't really know the tricks of the trade.

1. Mall Shopping
Mall shopping is something that all of us do at least twice a month whether we like it or not(which for the average girl is a like). And though I love scowering the racks to find that perf LBD, I feel like the mall is trying to intimidate you. From the flourescent lights at Forever21 to the large(and calorie packed) food courts, everything is not a good package. I mean sure, there is nothing else that I love more than taking home a million retail bags, and being able to have indent marks in my arms to prove it. But if you don't shop right in the retail department, your day could be ended in disaster.
The most likely thing you'll find at a food court.
1.Food Courts: All of them take us in w/ their amazing smells and "low" cost of food, but if you think about it, there is no medium.
See, you're walking around all day, burning like 1000 calories, and then you eat at the food court where you gain them all back. It's just not worth it. So my advice to you is to save yourself from the greasy, metabolism reducing, fattening food of the food court, and just pack your own lunch. But make sure it's healthy because w/ all that walking around, unhealthy foods are sure to weigh you down.

2.Splurge Shopping: Sometimes I have a plan when I go to the mall(especially now, before school starts) to get necessities. But then when you get there, you see the most amazing over-the-knee boots, and you fall in love. But they will always be a (do I have to say the t- word?). Those are the types of things that we all fall in love with. But are they worth the large price tag and the small amount of wear? In most cases, probably not. So my tip here is not to splurge on the in-the-moment things. Instead, opt for timeless pieces that will never go out of style, and things that are basic and that you'll get a lot of use out of (ex.jeans, white button downs, everyday boots, etc.). And if you still want to own a pair of those amazing boots! Don't pay the full price tag! Go to a trendy and inexpensive store like Forever21 to get a good pair of those amazing boots.                                         Below:Alexander Mcqueen Pumps
3.Shoe Shopping: I'm not exactly certain what it is about shoes that makes most girls on the planet giddy for joy. Maybe it's because they feel taller in those 4 in. wedges. Or the feeling that they get when they wear those one-of-a-kind Harry Potter cover designed Vans (they're actually real, no joke). Or maybe it's something totally different, and I'm really off. But whatever the reason, shoes are probably my favorite (and many other girls too) fave things to shop for. But a lot of us make mistakes when shopping for shoes. Like some of us go shopping for them at the beginning of the day just to get it over w/. The real secret is to go shopping for them at the end of your shopping day when your feet are swollen so that the feet measurements are more spot on. Also, don't just buy a pricey pair of Uggs (or as I like to call them, Ugg-lies) because everyone else has got a pair. Buy an awesome pair of to-the-knee boots because you like their fit, comfort level, and look. Shoes can definitely make or break an outfit (in some cases), but if your good at the shopping part of shoes, then the rest is a piece of cake.

4.Accessory Shopping ags, jewelry, hats, scarves, etc.): Other than shoes, this must be my favorite thing to shop for no matter where I am. There's just something about buying the most perfect pendant necklace, or the most beautiful pair of chandelier earrings that makes me super proud of my accessory collection. And to tell you the truth, it might be the trouble spot for most of us young fashionistas. Because most of us don't have a ton of money, and so we shop at the cheap jewelry stores like Forever21, H and M, and Charlotte Russe. So we tend to take home more accessories than we were planning to because we think that they are so cheap, but then those prices add up, and then.....well, I think you know the rest. So my tips for accessory shopping is to buy your clothes and shoes first. This way you don't blow all your money on small pieces, but still get some of the your fave trinkets.
